LOOK NORTH MUST LOOK NORTH

This Website is the focal point of a Campaign to get Regional Television in the North East of England, that’s BBC Look North and ITV Tyne Tees, to cover all of the North East better- including the Northern Hinterland of rural Northumberland and the Scottish Borders for the benefit of all who live north and north-west of Tyneside.

North East England North of Hadrians Wall. The lack of any news- coverage North of the Border is unacceptable- for obvious reasons.

2nd October 2021 Dear Readers When Emperor Hadrian had built the famous wall that takes his name in AD122, it was to mark the most north-west extent of his Roman kingdom: The part that was south of Hadrian’s Wall was Britannia, from which we have the name Britain, but the part north of Hadrian’s Wall … Continue reading North East England North of Hadrians Wall. A Sunny Warm August Day: Views from Near Kielder and the Scottish Border

28th August 2021 I have been for a lovely country drive into rural Northumberland and across into the Scottish Borders on a fantastic Bank Holiday week-end. Who can complain! Do sample some nice views of this oft- neglected part of the World by North East Regional Television- this Website will showcase some of these places … Continue reading A Sunny Warm August Day: Views from Near Kielder and the Scottish Border

Regional TV in North East England by 2050. A Worst Case Scenario

21st August 2021 This is a Website that campaigns for better and more geographic- appropriate Regional Television for rural Northumberland. However, there is a real chance that what viewers in northern parts of North East England, indeed all of North East England and including North Yorkshire will end up with an even worse and less … Continue reading Regional TV in North East England by 2050. For the Good Folk of Berwick-upon-Tweed That’s TV Edinburgh/ South Scotland would provide better cross- Border News

14th August 2021 Dear Readers Berwick upon Tweed and North Northumberland- that is north of Alnwick- have stronger links with the Scottish Borders than the rest of Northumberland. This is not surprising given that Berwick-upon-Tweed was once part of Scotland and that the ancient county of Berwickshire- of which Berwick-upon-Tweed was the administrative town- extends … Continue reading For the Good Folk of Berwick-upon-Tweed That’s TV Edinburgh/ South Scotland would provide better cross- Border News

A Regional News- Service for Northumberland and the Scottish Borders

July 2021 Dear Readers The vast rural area of northern Britain that encompasses rural mid and northern Northumberland, the Scottish Borders, West and East Lothian (just south and east of Edinburgh) along with the extreme north of Cumbria north of Carlisle covers an area of some 5,000 square miles:  For all practical purposes this massive … Continue reading A Regional News- Service for Northumberland and the Scottish Borders

Good- quality timely Regional News for rural Northumberland and North Yorkshire is actually a vital Public Service.

Dear Readers North Northumbrian viewers of Regional Television would be best- served by a Regional and Local News- service that covers Northumberland and the Scottish Borders, with some overlap coverage south to cover Tyneside, Wearside, and County Durham, some overlap west to cover Carlisle and North Cumbria and overlap northwards to cover the East and … Continue reading Good- quality timely Regional News for rural Northumberland and North Yorkshire is actually a vital Public Service.

    1. Dear Mariela

I am pleased you like the Website and the issues around Regional Television coverage across Northumberland. Do you live in Northumberland? If so, share this Website with your friends and family members because the more people who get involved and write in to BBC Look North and ITV1 Tyne Tees to say local television coverage North of Tyne is not good enough, the sooner they will do something about it!

  1. Howdy, i read your blog occasionally and i own a similar one and i was just curious if you get a lot of spam comments? If so how do you stop it, any plugin or anything you can recommend? I get so much lately it’s driving me mad so any support is very much appreciated.

    1. Good evening Lyndon. I am pleased that you like my Website- do you live in the North East of England? If so, you will be familiar with some of the topics that I discuss, particularly that North of Tyne communities are often over looked on BBC Look North and ITV Tyne Tees.

As regards Spam, for my own Website I do not have a lot and I just delete those posts that I think are irrelevant or are trying to sell me advertising space (if its so good, why do they have to target folk in this way?). I use Word press and there is, with each post, an option to block the senders (there is a link entitled “User Information” in the top right corner). There is, in extreme situations, the option of only allowing certain followers to view your Website, but if you do that you block hundreds of potential viewers who have a genuine interest in what you have to say.

You can also disable discussion on the Home Page of your Website, you might find that reduces a lot of the Spam- genuinely interested folk will read the articles where they can still comment. In WordPress, you can go to the Dashboard, select the home page of your Website and you will find the option of disabling discussion on the right hand side. However, I don’t know whether you have Word press but any Website- supporting platform should, if it is decent, allow you to specify which pages you allow commenting on.

    2. Hello again, Lyndon

To block comment on the Home page of your own Website, thats if you use WordPress, go into your Dashboard, select “Site”, then “Pages” from left-hand side. Click on your “Home” page then under “Discussion” to the right of the page there is an option to allow/disallow Comments- untick the “Allow Comments” box. That should deal with much of the Spam because Spammers tend not to investigate your Website and look at different pages. If you have a different Website platform you should still have most of these options, but they will be in different places to WordPress.

However, be warned. If you block comments on the Home page of your Website you might eliminate a good deal of genuine feedback too.

As regards Plug-ins, there are a number out there which you can experiment with, some are free of charge: website https://www.wpexplorer.com/antispam-plugins-wordpress/.
